Nishi (means, gWesth in Japanese) Junior High School is one of eleven public junior high schools within Ashikaga city.  It is the third or fourth largest in the city.  AshiNishi (the schoolfs nickname) has about 37 teachers.  The students are separated into three grades and range in age from 12 to 15 years old.  Each grade is split into 4 kumi (or classes), with about 35 students in each class.

Nishi students (as all students in Japan do) wear school uniforms.  One type is for formal ceremonies, and the other is their gym uniform which are more commonly seen on students.  Almost all students walk to school everyday, however, a few are dropped off by parents in their cars.  On special recycling days or field trip days, students may ride their bikes, but anytime a junior high school student is riding a bicycle, they are required to wear helmets.
